We have a great time at school. The children love to go to school and learn. So it makes teaching a joy. However, there is sometimes a gap between our languages. Even though the official language of Liberia is English. There are 16 tribal languages mixed in as well. Many words that are in our textbooks I have to explain in great detail and with pictures. And the pronunciation of words here can be a little different. So I draw things that represent the word to the best of my ability. Which can make for some very amusing moments in class. 😃 I'm not a very good artist. Diamond who had never been to school until 6 months ago when he came to H4L has started reading beginning reader books. He also is adding and subtracting up to 12. Diamond is the oldest child here at H4L, he is 13 years old. He is super bright and learns things so quickly.
On Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays for our last class of the day at 3:30 pm, I teach music. In music class we are preparing for our Christmas pageant. Learning Christmas songs. Memorizing scriptures and reciting lines. They are so good at singing and memorizing scripture. ❤️
On Thursday afternoons for our last class of the day at 3:30 pm. I teach art. The children have a difficult time using scissors so we did another practice cutting art lesson this week. I also taught how to use a glue stick... lol. They were rolling the stick up into the lid before opening it and then getting the glue jammed into the lid. They did a great job and they really enjoy doing art. The last kids left the classroom over an hour after school officially ended.
Jim is the school principal and is teaching the older kids' math class. While I'm teaching the younger kids' math class.
We are so excited to see what the next few weeks and months bring for our kids as they learn at school.
Thank you for your support and prayers!
Love, Janelle
