More than a Harvest

This picture may seem simple at first glance…just a bunch of dried peppers, but to us, it represents something so much bigger. It reflects one of the long-term visions of Hope 4 Liberia: self-sustainability.
For years, we have prayed, planned, and worked toward a future where our ministry compound can provide more of what we need from the land the Lord has given us. These peppers are a small but powerful reminder that those prayers are being answered.
We didn’t have to go to the market to purchase these dried peppers. They were planted, nurtured, harvested, and dried right here on the H4L farm. What a blessing! Peppers are an everyday staple here at the compound. They are used in nearly every meal we prepare here…breakfast, lunch and supper. To be able to simply walk next door, pick them fresh off the plant, or gather them dried and ready to use is something we do not take for granted.
This harvest did not happen overnight. Abba and our dedicated farmhands worked tirelessly to plant over an acre of peppers. They prepared the soil, sowed the seeds, watered the fields, protected the plants, and trusted God for the growth. When harvest time came, it truly became “all hands on deck.” Children and adults alike joined together in the fields, carefully picking peppers under the warm Liberian sun. There was laughter, teamwork, and a shared sense of accomplishment as baskets filled up again and again.
Moments like these do more than provide food…it builds unity and teaches responsibility. It shows our children the value of hard work and the reward that comes from patience and perseverance. Most of all, they remind us that God is faithful to provide.
As if the pepper harvest wasn’t exciting enough, we also celebrated another milestone: the first butchering of our very own pig raised right here on the farm! For the past two days, we have enjoyed fresh pork in our soups, another tangible blessing from the efforts of our growing agricultural endeavors. To see the fruit of our labor nourishing our children and staff is deeply encouraging. We can’t describe to you how fulfilling it is to witness.
Each harvest, each new step toward independence, strengthens the foundation of what we are building here. Self-sustainability means stability. It means stewarding resources wisely. It means creating a future where the ministry can thrive, grow, and continue serving for generations to come.
We are incredibly thankful for this beautiful harvest and all it represents. And we are excited for what lies ahead. This is only the beginning. With every seed planted and every crop gathered, we move closer to the vision God has placed before us.
Thank you for praying with us, believing in this mission, and celebrating these victories alongside us. We look forward to many more moments like this as we continue to grow and expand!
God bless you!
