The early years of a child's life are critical, serving as the foundation for their future. It's during this pivotal time that children either receive the support they need to grow and thrive or face challenges that can severely impact their physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
In Liberia, one-third of the population consists of young children under the age of 5. While there have been significant improvements in child survival and development over the years, many children still lack the essential support they need in these formative years.
The challenges often begin even before birth. Liberia’s maternal mortality rate is alarmingly high, with 1,072 deaths per 100,000 live births. This means that many children die with their mothers in the womb or are born into the world without a mother to care for and nourish them.
Every child deserves a strong start in life, but many in Liberia are still struggling to receive the care and support they need. By working together, we can help ensure that these children not only survive but also have the opportunity to thrive. Let’s continue to raise awareness and take action to improve the lives of young children and their families. The future of Liberia depends on it.
