Knowing The Will of God
Is it possible God is or has been preparing you for something greater?
Jim and I have 7 children...17 years old all the way up to 32 years old. We have always tried to instill in them to do hard things. Where there were forks in the road, I believe I can confidently say that we have chosen the path most untrodden. Has it been easier than we thought? No. Did we make those choices flippantly? No. Did we do what we believed to be within the context of scripture and God's will? Yes! Are there battle wounds? Yes. Was it worth it? Yes! This could be a post all on its own but we will save that for another time.
It is not difficult to determine what the will of God is. We can make it complicated, hoping for a lightening strike or God to audibly speak to us. The fact is...His Word, the Bible, is filled with principles in which to live by, in turn directs us to His will. If we take time to read His letter to us, we will certainly know His will.
I'm doing an in-depth study on the book of James right now. James 4:17 is quite clear..."So for one who know the right thing to do and does not do it, for him it is sin." God's will will NEVER contradict scripture. James 1:17 says, "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow." God never changes, never varies, never wavers.
One thing we can be positively certain of is that it is God's will that we take care of the fatherless....orphans.
Psalm 68:5 tells us, "Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation."
James 2:15-16 are descriptive of our calling. "If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and be filled," and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that?"
How about Hosea 14:3...."For in You the fatherless find compassion."
I love this promise! "I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you." John 14:18
This last verse is one of our primary operating principles here at Hope 4 Liberia. We are literally the hands and feet of Jesus! He is using us to comfort our orphaned children, to provide their clothing and food, to wrap our arms of compassion around them letting them know THEY ARE LOVED! They are not forgotten by God. What a beautiful calling we have! We can know confidently that we are functioning within the will of God when we give to care for orphans and when we volunteer to help in various ways.
