At Hope 4 Liberia, we believe that ministry doesn’t stop at meeting physical needs — it’s about tending to hearts, minds, and souls. Every day, our dedicated staff pour themselves into the lives of our children, many of whom have faced unimaginable loss and heartache at a tender age. But what about the caregivers themselves? Who tends to their hearts? Who offers them hope and healing for their own wounds?
Last week, we took a powerful step toward answering that question.
From May 19-22, eight of our devoted staff members — the very men and women who provide daily care, mentorship, and guidance to our children — participated in a four-day Trauma Healing training right here at our orphanage. Facilitated by Julie Alexander and Brother Michael from the Trauma Healing Institute, this workshop was more than a training session. It was a safe space for honesty, reflection, and renewal.
The Need Behind the Ministry
In Liberia, trauma runs deep. Years of war, poverty, disease, and loss have left scars on many hearts — and our staff are no exception. Most have experienced personal loss, hardships, and community suffering. As they serve the wounded hearts of orphaned children, they often carry their own silent burdens. We recognize that true, lasting ministry cannot happen unless the healers themselves are whole, strengthened, and supported.

Healing the Healers
During those four days, our staff engaged in meaningful conversations about grief, loss, anger, forgiveness, and hope. They learned practical tools for recognizing trauma symptoms, listening well, offering biblical comfort, and creating safe spaces for others to process their pain. Even more importantly, they had the opportunity to process their own stories — some for the very first time.
The sessions included Bible-based teaching, small group discussions, and activities designed to help participants name their wounds and find hope in Christ. Tears were shed. Prayers were lifted. Hearts were mended.

Why This Matters
Empowering our caregivers to heal is a ministry in itself. When staff members are equipped emotionally and spiritually, it overflows into their work with our children, their families, churches, and communities. It strengthens our orphanage family from the inside out.
This training wasn’t just an event — it was an investment in a healthier, more compassionate, and resilient Hope 4 Liberia team. We believe that a caregiver who knows the power of God’s healing in their own life is far more effective in helping a hurting child experience that same grace.
A Heartfelt Thank You
We extend our deepest gratitude to Julie Alexander and Brother Michael for their loving, Spirit-led leadership. The seeds you’ve sown in the lives of our staff will bear fruit for years to come — not just within these walls, but throughout Liberia.

Moving Forward
This is only the beginning. Hope 4 Liberia remains committed to the holistic well-being of our entire ministry family. As we raise up children to become godly leaders, we must also build up the men and women who walk beside them.
To our supporters: thank you for making this possible. Your partnership allows us to care well, not only for our precious children but also for the courageous hearts that serve them every day.
Together, we’re healing hearts, restoring hope, and raising a generation of difference-makers.
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” — Psalm 147:3
