What Is Credited to Your Account
Hello again.
I’m working my way through a Bible study and wanted to share a few things that impacted me deeply.
Hope 4 Liberia has recently developed a motto that goes something like this:
Faith with Works for Liberia’s Orphans
Our faith in Christ, His work within us is how we know these orphans are important. They are important to God. There’s only a handful of things in God’s Word that have this kind of clarity found in James 1:27. He tells us to care for orphans and widows in their distress. It’s just point blank, that clear!
Our ministry is about partnering together (you and me) to care for the things that God deems as important. Orphans/children…..They are the very heartbeat of God.
Now let’s look at this…..
“Now, brethren, we wish to make known to you the grace of God which has been given in the churches of Macedonia, that in a great ordeal of affliction their abundance of joy and their deep poverty overflowed in the wealth of their liberality. For I testify that according to their ability, and beyond their ability, they gave of their own accord, begging us with much urging for the favor of participation in the support of the saints, and this, not as we had expected, but they first gave themselves to the Lord and to us by the will of God.”
2 Corinthians 8:1-5
AND
“Not that I desire your gifts; what I desire is that more be credited to your account.”
Philippians 4:17
Take the word “more” and replace it with “treasures in heaven”
More=treasures in heaven
“what I desire is that TREASURES IN HEAVEN be credited to your account.”
Caring for these children, is loving the very things that God calls blessings. They are treasures that we are working to see in heaven someday. These difficult times on earth that they are enduring….example: never knowing when they will eat next, being fearful that someone is coming to abuse them sexually again, never receiving a tender maternal hug and kiss goodnight, laying in a ditch of cold, mosquito-infested water, etc…
As the church, these are all things that you and I can partner together to do something about!
“For I testify that according to their ability, and beyond their ability, they gave of their own accord, begging us with much urging for the favor of participation in the support of the saints”
I find it interesting that Paul talks about the deep poverty among the Macedonian church and yet….they gave financially, even beyond their ability. Some even begged to be able to be part of Paul’s ministry by giving. They knew their calling was found, not in earthly possessions but in laying up treasures in heaven. ❤️ Children are treasures. There’s not a thing on earth you can take with you to eternity…….except souls.
Hope 4 Liberia’s primary mission is to love these children, provide for their basic physical needs and most importantly, to prepare them for heaven.
Some give. Some send. Some go.
