This week has been filled with joy, laughter, and special moments as we welcomed our CEO, Kelly, and the visiting USA team to the orphanage. One of the standout highlights was a delightful ladies’ tea party yesterday, organized for our dedicated female staff. This gathering offered a much-needed break from their daily responsibilities, providing an afternoon of bonding, reflection, and relaxation.
Hosted by Kelly and co-hosted by Ashley, the tea party brought together 12 of our incredible women, offering them a chance to pause and enjoy some personal connection. It was a time to unwind, share stories, and encourage one another. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, filled with smiles and meaningful conversations.
The event began with cheerful nursery songs sung by the Liberian staff, adding a heartfelt, local touch to the occasion. These familiar melodies filled the room, creating an atmosphere of unity, cultural pride, and simple joy. It was a reminder of the strength found in their shared roots and the beauty of coming together as a community.
At the heart of the gathering was a powerful and encouraging devotional led by Kelly, focusing on the theme, “Spend time with your husband—make him your best friend.” Drawing from her experience and wisdom, Kelly spoke about the importance of nurturing marriages, emphasizing that men crave attention and affection from their wives. In the midst of busy lives and heavy responsibilities, it’s essential to prioritize relationships and foster strong, loving connections.
She shared practical, heartfelt advice with the ladies: “Put away your phones when you’re with your husband. Focus on him and make him feel like the king of your heart. Showing interest in what he enjoys can make a world of difference. And don’t forget to pray for him daily, asking God to guide his heart and mind.”
The discussion became even more lively when the women shared their own stories of how they spend time with their husbands to show love and respect. Each story was unique, filled with humor, affection, and creativity:
Mercy shared her tradition of playing board games with her husband—even at 2 AM! This playful routine keeps them connected, no matter the time of day.
Priscilla described peaceful walks along the beach with her husband, finding time to reconnect in a serene and romantic setting.
Yassah emphasized the importance of regular date nights, leaving the kids at home to enjoy quality time with her husband, keeping the spark alive in their marriage.
These personal stories brought smiles, laughter, and a sense of camaraderie among the group, and Kelly encouraged them to continue finding small, meaningful ways to nurture their marriages, no matter how busy life becomes.
The afternoon wrapped up with a heartfelt prayer led by Kelly, asking for God’s blessing over their marriages. She prayed for strength, wisdom, and love to guide each of the women as they support their husbands. It was a moving and spiritually uplifting moment, leaving everyone feeling renewed and encouraged.
Of course, no tea party is complete without refreshments, and the ladies enjoyed soothing cups of peppermint tea—a perfect way to relax and refresh after the busy demands of caring for the children. The tea warmed both their bodies and their spirits, giving them a moment of peace and reflection.
But the real fun began with a creative twist—each woman was asked to paint a portrait of her husband! The room filled with laughter and amusement as the women embraced their inner artists, leading to some truly unique and humorous masterpieces. The lighthearted activity allowed them to let go of the stresses of daily life and simply enjoy the moment, creating a shared memory that left smiles on their faces.
This tea party was more than just an afternoon event—it was a chance for the women of Hope 4 Liberia to renew their spirits, find strength in their roles as wives, mothers, and caregivers, and be reminded of the importance of self-care and nurturing their most important relationships. It was a beautiful time of reflection and connection, reinforcing that in the midst of serving others, it’s essential to also care for oneself and the relationships that matter most.
As the women left the tea party, they carried with them not only the wisdom and encouragement they had received but also a renewed sense of joy and purpose in their marriages and their work at the orphanage.
At Hope 4 Liberia, we are committed to fostering strong, faith-centered relationships in every aspect of life. This tea party was a shining example of how we strive to support the women who are at the very heart of our mission.
